1928 -2012

“Neuman the policeman”
the first policeman of Gedera
, born in Romania, a Holocaust survivor, an active member of the IDF organization.
Immigrated to Israel in 1948 and immediately enlisted in the IDF.
In the War of Liberation he served in the “Alexandroni Brigade”
and fought on the southern front. Due to an injury, he transferred to the border guard
and later, enlisted in the Israel Police.
In 1962 he established the first police station in Gedera.
and was Gedera’s first policeman.
He also served as a security guard for President Zalman Shazer in Jerusalem.

Neuman was a policeman dedicated in his soul to his duty,
admired and loved by the residents of Gedera and the surrounding area,
a bridge and a listening ear to the community and a peace and security in the settlement.
He advocated his teaching
“not to be dragged into crime – but to improve behavior”
when he reached 84 years of heroism his heart stopped beating.
But the many stories in praise of him and his actions in life
are still being told…
